Azeztula

AZEZTULAQUARTZ var. “AZEZTULA”

HISTORY, NAME, LOCALITIES: The term “Azeztula quartz,” a metaphysical designation of a type of macrocrystalline quartz, has been known since 1991.  It was named by authors Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian for “the Azez,” described by the authors as a group of inter-dimensional beings from the star Azez who endowed this quartz with special powers.  Azeztula quartz is found in North Carolina; a similar type of quartz comes from Vermont.

MINERALOGY, PROPERTIES, OCCURRENCE: The properties of Azeztula quartz are identical to those of the rock crystal variety of quartz [silicon dioxide, SiO2].  It crystallizes in the hexagonal system as short-to-long, horizontally striated, hexagonal crystals with pyramidal terminations.  Azeztula quartz is transparent to translucent, and has a Mohs hardness of 7.0, a conchoidal fracture, a dull luster, and a specific gravity of 2.65.  Crystals are usually milky at the base and become colorless near the termination.  Azeztula quartz occurs within vugs of sedimentary formations.   Mineralogists do not consider it to be a valid variety of quartz.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES, LORE, USES: Metaphysical practitioners believe that Azeztula quartz has unusual levels of energy and can accelerate spiritual growth, aid in astral travel, and infuse deep feelings of peace, serenity, and joy.  It is also used to increase the energy of other crystals.

COLLECTORS’ INFORMATION: Azeztula quartz is collected and worn by metaphysical practitioners as a stone of unusual power.  However, controversy exists within metaphysical circles about its origin and purported powers.  Colored varieties of dubious origin have recently appeared on the market.
