These crystals have beautifully formed of the species with exceptional pearly luster and transparency to a shallow depth.

A Gash Vein is a mineralized fissure that extends a short distance vertically.

The dolomite found in this vein commonly formed thin layers, in several generations of growth, on some calcite crystals.

Dolomite #2

This specimen is part of a grouping of a New Find in 2015 which was collected from a Gash Vein in St. Lawrence County, New York.  A Gash Vein is a mineralized fissure the extends a short distance vertically.  The dolomite found in this vein is commonly formed in thin layers, with several generations of growth.  The crystals that form have an exceptional pearly luster with a “fish scale” patterning structure.

Collectors acquire dolomite because of the rarity of well-developed crystals; interesting mineralogical associations; and unusual, curved crystal faces. The name “Dolomites” is derived from the famous French mineralogist Deodat Grate de Dolomieu who was the first to describe the rock, dolomite.

According to modern metaphysical practitioners, dolomite relieves sorrow and the symptoms of depression, aligns and balances mental and emotional energies, and encourages charitable actions and generosity.
