Garnet var. Andradite #7
Andradite is named to honor a Brazilian mineralogist, statesman, professor and poet, Jose Bonifacio de Adrada e Silva who was made famous for his discovery of andradite and spodumene.
Andradite is a calcium iron silicate that can contain aluminum, chromium or titanium that would be replacing some of the iron. The colors are brown, reddish-brown, bronze, orange, yellow, and brownish-green, gray and black. The black color is called melanite and is referred to as “titanitan andradite”. Demantoid is the vivid green color and is considered one of the most valuable and rare stones in the gemological world. Topazolite is the yellow-to green color and if it is a high enough quality can be cut into faceted gemstones.
The color green is often considered a color of healing and abundance. Andradite garnet is considered a powerful spiritual cleanser and is associated with the zodiac sign of Aquarius.
