TIGERS EYE WAND 3″ X .75″

$20.00

This golden-brown combines the energy of the earth with the vibrancy of the sun. Is in the quartz family though what distinguishes it from the rest of the quartz family is that within its matrix are asbestos fibers usually occurring in layers.

Wands come in an array of shapes, sizes, and material. Some are ornate with numerous crystals and metal and or wood; while most common are made of a single crystal or mineral and are tapered to a pointed at one end. When one side is rounded and smooth they are often referred to as massage wand and can be used to work pressure points. The tapered end concentrates and directs the energy of the stone you are working with.

TIGER’S EYE   (QUARTZ var. TIGEREYE)

HISTORY, NAME, LOCALITIES: The tigereye variety of microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony) has been known since antiquity. The name “tigereye,” which alludes to the narrow, chatoyant, “cat’s-eye’-like reflection in this form of quartz was first used in the 1880s.  Tigereye is collected in Australia, Burma, India, Namibia, Brazil, Canada, China, South Africa, Spain, and the United States (Montana, Arizona, California).

MINERALOGY, PROPERTIES, OCCURRENCE: The tigereye variety of quartz consists of a parallel intergrowth of microcrystalline quartz and fiber-like crystals of asbestos-group minerals that have altered to limonite. Reflection of light from the aligned groups of microcrystals creates the chatoyancy for which the variety is named.  Tigereye is multicolored, with colors ranging from brown through yellow and gold to yellow-orange.  Colors are arranged in parallel patterns.  The tigereye variety of quartz has a Mohs hardness of nearly 7.0, a conchoidal fracture, and a specific gravity of 2.62-2.66.  It usually occurs as secondary veins in sedimentary or metamorphic formations.

METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES, LORE, USES: The tigereye variety of quartz is a very popular semiprecious gemstone that is tumbled into beads or cut-and-polished into cabochons for wear in pendants, necklaces, and rings.  It is also a popular decorative and lapidary material.  Tigereye has no technological uses.  According to modern metaphysical practitioners, tigereye is a stone of protection with stabilizing and grounding properties.  It enhances integrity, self confidence, good luck, and willpower, while helping one to see clearly without illusion.

COLLECTOR’S INFORMATION: Tigereye is widely collected, usually in polished form, for its chatoyancy, colors, and color patterns.
